FAQs

The Glomfjord Data Center is an operational, modern AI infrastructure facility owned and operated by Nscale. We developed the data center within the Glomfjord industrial park in the Meløy municipality and are a large employer in the region.

Yes. Nscale is proud that our Glomfjord facility operates in one of the cleanest energy regions in the world, drawing from a regional grid that runs predominantly on renewable hydropower. To provide absolute commercial and legal certainty under international greenhouse gas accounting standards, Nscale matches 100% of our electricity consumption with certified Guarantees of Origin (GOs). This standard European verification system legally documents that an equivalent amount of renewable hydropower is generated and allocated specifically to our operations.

‍

The Glomfjord site’s current operational allocation is fully secured and active, operating safely within the existing regional infrastructure and is relatively small compared with the current regional surplus.

No. The Glomfjord Data Center does not draw from municipal drinking water for its cooling operations. Our advanced cooling system design is optimized for northern climates, utilizing freshwater supplied directly through Yara’s industrial park water system, using untreated water.

‍

The Closed-Loop Advantage: Our cooling system operates on a highly efficient closed-loop system. Similar to a car’s radiator system, the coolant stays sealed inside a closed pipe network. The system is filled once, and the coolant recirculates continuously.

‍

We treat heat as a valuable local resource. As freshwater passes through our heat exchangers, it absorbs heat from the data center and leaves at an elevated temperature. This warm water can then be reused to support neighboring land-based fish farming operations within the industrial park.

We are proud to support stable, highly skilled local employment in Glomfjord and the surrounding area with more than 30 jobs today and more coming. In addition to our long term jobs on site, we are also working with local businesses and contractors to meet our needs further supporting the local community.
